My Story

Let Positive Pilates Be Your Personal Pilates

I came to Pilates by accident — literally! I had a bad fall on the ice many years ago, was knocked unconscious, broke my arm, and sustained a whiplash injury, which left me with back and neck pain. At the time, I was keeping fit by doing yoga, strength training, and power walking. After the accident, I found I couldn’t do any of it. About a year after the accident I had gained 30 pounds, and I was weak and depressed. Then a friend asked me if I had ever heard of Pilates. Of course I hadn’t — but back then no one had. It took a couple of months for me to find classes — this isn’t the sort of exercise you want to tackle on your own!

I was surprised how good I felt afterwards. None of the aches and pains I had with other exercises. I got the sense that I could do this. It was hard work, but good.

I found that group lessons were a good introduction but I was eager to do more and one-on-one lessons using the various Pilates equipment made a huge difference in strength, stamina and flexibility.

Soon I was excited at the prospect of teaching this method to others, and I began training in New York City with Power Pilates. So now, I have a wall full of certificates, and I still attend training sessions on a regular basis. I am as fascinated and excited by this method now as I was when I began to get my own body back!!!
